My First Day on my First Mission Trip - Dylan Brown

Today was first day of the mission trip. We woke up at 3:30am and headed to the church, for some this was going to be their first trip and others their second, third, or fourth. Once all the bags were packed and everyone was there, we prayed and hit the road. Things were about to get real. The first two hours were fine, but the third fourth and so on were pain. We were getting uncomfortable and restless, but finally, a gas station. This was our first stop, we got out got coffee, snacks, and other necessities. I sat in the third row, with me were Phil and Andrew. Phil used me as a human pillow for over half the ride and Andrew was constantly yelling. Then when we got across the Idaho border we stopped at a hat shop, a cowboy hat shop. Now Idaho I weird but I never thought I’d see and man drinking a Coors Lite while working. It was an amazing experience, and Andrew got a great hat out of it. As the hours dragged on, Riley brought out a game. The game consists of cards randomly drawn and read aloud, the cards would have us do things like, name a movie starting with each letter of the alphabet. We played this game for about an hour when everyone started drifting, Phil was using me as a pillow again and Andrew surprisingly fell asleep. For once on the entire road trip so far it was quiet. It was like this all the way to the church we were staying at. I was so excited to finally get out of the car, I struggled to walk for a moment then rushed inside. (at this time the temp was 100 degrees) We were told the plan to unpack and set off in to the bloody heat. With everyone’s help it when by quite fast. The boys took the music room, and the girls got the gym. I was amazed by this church, it was clean, had nice flooring, and it was a school as well. We settled in and created a band, It consisted of me, Gavin, Alex, and Phil. For dinner we had pizza from Bigfoot Pizza, it was mid. After eating, we had group time and discussed what we had planned to do to get closer with God. I had chosen to be uncomfortable, to get out of what I liked. Then we prayed had ice-cream and started getting ready for bed. For my first day I would say it was a great day. We had stopped in Pocatello, Idaho, with eight and a half hours of driving left, we were over halfway to youth works.
