This trip has been a very interesting one. This was my second trip which meant I thought things would go just like the last time. But I was very wrong. First night on the way to San Diego was just as I thought, but then the second day went so far south that it wasn't funny. To shorten that crazy day, I had In-N-Out for my first time and after that about an hour later we stopped at a rest stop. After that we bolted straight for a hospital in Bakersfield. We went there because one of the youth in our car was not doing well. The doctors there were no help at all. We were there for over 7 hours. We ended up staying in Bakersfield overnight. We went on our way to San Diego the next day. I don't really know much about this day because I slept for most of it. When we got to San Diego, we walked to the border but when we got there we had to turn back around.
The next day, Tuesday, I was in the group "Sweet." It was fun to be in a group at the places we went to because I don't like places like that. We went to the San Diego Rescue Mission and worked at their thrift store. After working there from 9-12, we went to a retirement home from 1-2:45. After our work day, we took a shower at a shelter of some sort. We would do evening activities after dinner. We went to a beach one night and Holly, Keziah and I played volleyball with some local kids. Two were 18 and the others 17 years old. Then more of their friends joined and made everything fun, but then we had to go.
At the thrift store we sorted through clothes and Christmas supplies. At the nursing home we hung out with the residents. We talked to them, played balloon volleyball and even did their nails. On the last day we watched a movie with them. From the thrift store I got a t-shirt for only 99 cents!
Thursday was a rough night. This night our youth leaders wash our feet and pray over us. I balled my eyes out the whole time. It was maybe an hour and a half of straight crying for me. There were people from other churches giving hugs to other churches. I had a whole church give me a big group hug at once. Everyone was very kind during this. At the end of it, I was drained both emotionally and physically.
Friday we cleaned the church and I broke a metal broom and got cut by it. Then we were off to Disneyland. My favorite part was seeing their marching and jazz bands. I called my mother right away to tell her that that is what I want to do! Sofia, Laura, Rachel and I got stuck at the top of Big Thunder Mountain. This trip was definitely one to remember.
I love everyone who came even if they drove me crazy. I still love them and most definitely will do it again.
