As this mission trip
is coming to a close, I am looking back on the things that I have learned. Before
this mission trip I didn’t really want to put all my trust in God because I would
worry and if the situation was not what I had in mind, I would think that God
was working against me. Two times this week, my service group went to a thrift
store/food bank called the Carpenters Cupboard which is run by a man named
David Clifton. The building was small and hot and they had a lot more than they
could hold. Even though the space was cramped, it was my favorite site.
The other
two days we went to David Clifton’s new site that the old space will be moving
into. When we got to the new site, we were met by a man named Stewart. He
showed us around the new place that is over 15,000 sq. ft. Our first impression
of the place was that it had A LOT of work that needed to be done. Stewart said
that the kitchen alone needed about $100,000 worth of work. All of the money
that they use to fix up the place in donated. As we toured the building, Stewart
kept saying that God will provide. When he said that, it kind of amazed me that
he was able to have faith that God will help them to get to where they need to
be. They have come so far already because of their faith in God. I realized
that I would worry a lot less if I just put my trust in God.
Then we met David
Clifton who was once homeless and he prayed to God that if he helped him get
back on his feet then he would help others like God had helped him. David went
from church to church and from each one he got something, like clothes, food,
and a place to stay. David had kept his promise and I am glad he did because it
strengthens my belief and now I am able to trust in God. It’s not always the
answer you want, but he knows what is best for us. This whole trip has taught
me many things, but my favorite is that I am truly able to put my trust in God.
We're so proud of you Emma, putting your faith and trust in God will always take you where you're supposed to go.
