The first day my group was painting a little house out in
the sun and the heat. We had three new kids that were going to be in 8th
grade, and that don’t really know boundaries. This day I had a really difficult
time. I was cranky because of the heat and wasn’t willing to let these new kids
get accepted into my group. As the day progressed, I started to dislike the new
kids more and more. Then when our church group got to meet at the end of the
day, our group vented it all out to Sara and Tim. They helped us start to be
more understanding. That night I prayed and asked God to help me accept and
invite them into our group. The next day rolled by and it felt like just
another day here. Then we left to our site, I wasn’t excited for it at all. From
the beginning I wanted it to be over. Then as we started working, I saw that
the outsiders that I didn’t know before I could tolerate. I decided that since
they were not bad I will try to talk to them. I came to realize that the kids
are actually really nice and friendly and our whole group gets along better now.
Now I’m looking forward to the rest of the week and want to get to know these
kids better.
We are very proud of you Jonah, I know that it can be hard to look past your first impression of people and give them a second chance! Great job!
ReplyDeleteYou are getting down to the very heart of true service Jonah. Nicely done, very nice indeed!
ReplyDeleteWay to go Jonah! This is what we have always prayed that our group would be able to do, that is work with others, not just for others. You are all such a blessing to work with. I am glad that others are getting to find that out as well. ~Annette
