Some blog entries that didn't get posted...

Sorry to say that there were a few posts missing from the tail end of our trip due to a lack of internet access! You'll see these below:

Kodie-

Mission trips are always full of many different adventures. From cleaning houses and helping people in a 104 weather on our first trip to this one, helping the mentally ill and cleaning a house full of bugs. So my group was sent to the Avalon hotel which basically is Single Room Apartments which people can rent out and get taken care of and be off of the street.  But this building wasn’t what you would expect someone who isn’t happy to own and manage it, no it was a nice lady we called the president who cares for all the people and makes sure their house is good for them. Well one of our main jobs was helping her house, scrubbing down the walls and floors to preparing meals for the men she cared for. She was very grateful and expressed it very often. Its nice to see  because sometimes you spend an entire week working and no one knows of a single deed, to our lady who thanked us often and a treated us almost on the daily. She referred to us as her angels from God. It was a great experience volunteering with her and I am very glad I was sent to this work site with Sara and my Brother.

Our trip to Canada was fun and a great way to give back to the community!!! I have learned how grateful I am just by going there. When we got there we had gotten put in different groups my group had to go work at an old apartment building that at one point was a hotel. It was really dirty, smelly and filed with pesticides like roaches, mice and bed bugs. when we were working in the hotel we had to mope 4 floors, scrub the walls of 4 floors, and make food. It was a pretty crazy adventure!!!!!
Lexie-
So first things first, this week is not what I expected. I was put into a group where I thought that I would be doing manual labor, but we walked through the door to find kids. We were in a VBS. These kids are not like the kids like the ones back home, these kids don’t like to listen much and run everywhere. So after a day of chasing kids around and trying really hard not to lose them, we start heading for the church/home. But as the week went on I learned much from these kids. I learned that we must think about the other side of the story, the part that is hidden. With each kid that begged for my attention I saw that they needed it more than anyone. I am thankful for the kids who were clinging to me over the week. I hope that their lives were changed just as much as I am. It was really hard to leave them the next day knowing I may never get to see them again and that I can’t see the difference that I may have made on them. We sadly won’t be able to help them next week but there will be more Youthworks kids and hopefully they can make a difference.
During our devotions the most important thing that I took away is I am just like the people who are out on the street. We are all broken I just have better resources to hide it from the people around me. Those people can’t hide the brokenness that they have, they just let the whole world see, where I hide it and act like I am completely strong and fine but I am not. But no matter what I am desirable in the eyes of the Lord. He will always love me for me. I just need to accept it and so do many other people.
I am thankful for the mission trip and all the children that I helped, the things that I have learned about myself and about God
Jonah-
So this past week our youth group has been in Canada. We all got split up in groups I was put in Sara’s group with Grant, Kodie, Amanda and Hayley. We got to go and help out a hotel that was called the Avalon hotel. I was a little nervous about going to the hotel because, it was said to be bed bug central. We went to the hotel for the first part of the day for the week. I think we helped a lot we cooked and cleaned 4 floors. In the afternoons we went to this place called the living room. In the living room it was were homeless people or mentally challenge people go to basically hang out. We helped the living room by helping them cook every day. Organize some of their super dirty rooms. On one of the days we got to go to the park and have a picnic with the people from the living room. We socialized a little but mainly grant just went swimming in the lake.
On our free time we got to explore the city mainly this place called Gastown. We got to go into a lot of different shops mainly coffee shops. We tried this place called waves coffee. They had great coffee but the down fall about it was that they were super slow at making their coffee. We got to do this scavenger hunt that was things in Gastown my group was not very good at finding things but we met a lot of friendly locals that lead us in the right way. We went to the beach one of the nights and just hung out with the youth works people and other church’s. We got to do a lot of different things in the week that were super fun but that’s basically what happened throughout my work I had a great time and, hope to be able to tell you more about it.
