Today, my group and I went to a place called Oasis at Tenth Church. The organization is like a soup kitchen type thing, where we talked to the people there and served them lunch. It seemed to mean a lot to them that we were there and took time out of their days just to have a conversation with them, when to us it didn't seem like much at all.
This trip so far has been way different from my last one in San Diego. It has definitely tought me a lot about judgement. When you see people on the street, you don't really wonder about how they got there or where their family is. But once you sit down and actually talk to them, you'll find how kind they really are. Everybody we served has been so friendly and welcoming to us (with the exception of a few). When you have a conversation with these people, you find that they really have a lot to say about how they got there, and their stories. It has been really interesting, and has made me really thankful for what I have back at home that we really think nothing of- whether it be home cooked meals, showers that aren't at the community pool, and even a roof over our heads. It's been an amazing trip so far and I can't wait to see what God has in store for the days ahead.
