Goals - Amanda Sukonik

When I was packing for this trip at two in the morning the day I was supposed to leave , I took a second to stop and look up mission verses to help me find a purpose for my trip. The first one I found was Colossians 3:22-25. The part that strikes me the most was where it said that being a christian doesn't cover up bad work. That's so true! I can't put half of my energy into working with kids from the Boys and Girls Club, but turn around and say "It's okay because I love God!". I show I love God by putting everything I have into running around with those kids. The second was 1 Peter 3:15. It says be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks you why you're living the way you are. I feel uncomfortable with the idea of telling people about my faith when they ask me why I don't swear or why I forgive so easily. I'm still struggling with this part of my journey and my goals but hey! It's hard to put the love of God into words third graders can understand and appreciate. My last verse slash goal was 2 Timothy 2:15 " Concentrate on doing your best work for God. Work you won't be ashamed of." I can't put into words how frightening it is to try to do work you wouldn't be ashamed or embarrassed of when you step in front of God! We aren't perfect and sometimes we will be ashamed but the key word is to try. And trust me, we are here trying. Tonight during church group time it was so amazing to me that during highs and lows we couldn't come up with really any lows except small things that didn't really matter. And we aren't being completely serious here there are still plenty of times this trip that I have laughed so hard I cried. I'm so thankful for this opportunity and the chance to bond with this group. Please come ask me about it when we get back! I would love to share my experiences with you!
